Dozier Elementary To Reopen
|

A school damaged by Hurricane Rita will reopen this fall. Floodwaters shutdown Dozier Elementary in Vermillion Parish. students have been attending classes in fema trailers. Besides new windows and ceilings students will see a 5-foot-tall flood wall. School board members added the wall to protect the school from flooding in the future. Vermillion Parish Superintendent Randy Schexnayder says students and teacher are looking forward to being back in real classrooms. The school district lines have changed. The parents in Vermillion Parish, should double-check before the school starts on August 17. |

Louisiana Awarded With $170 Million Education Grant
The U.S. Department of Education awards a 170-million-dollar grant to a consortium of 26 states, including Louisiana, to develop new common assessments for public school students.

One Dead In Early Morning Shooting
Baton Rouge police report that officers responded to a shooting about 3:30 Thursday morning in the 1500 block of North Marque Ann Drive where they found a black male lying in a parking lot who had been shot.
