Travel Expert: Airfares Expected To Increase This Fall

(Undated) -- There are indications airfares will most likely go up once the busy summer travel season is over. That is why Travelocity senior editor Genevieve Shaw Brown says it's a smart idea to book your flights now for fall or holiday trips. Brown notes major air carriers like Delta and American Airlines recently announced they plan to cut seating capacity by about five-percent given the slide in air travel during the past year. Those capacity cuts combined with rising oil prices signal higher airfares are on the way, according to Brown. She encourages people making vacation plans for later this year to take advantage of package deals that include both flight and hotel reservations. While the hotel stay tends to be the most expensive part of a trip, Brown says room rates often are lower when included in a vacation package. Travelocity's Genevieve Shaw Brown says airfares later this year will likely be higher, but not as high as they were last year. Brown says the good news is hotel room rates are likely to remain lower through the end of this year. Brown says a study by Travelocity showed people can save more than 300-dollars on average by taking advantage of package deals that include both your flight and hotel stay. |
