A man who was acquitted last year in the death of 13-year-old Alexuia Feast of Lafayette will go on trial for sexual battery and carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Thornton Gross admitted to engaging in a sexual act with the girl hours before she was killed in October 2004. The state Third Circuit Court of Appeal has denied a request by Gross's attorneys to toss out the charges on a claim of double jeopardy. The defense argued the charges stemmed from testimony given by Gross during the murder trial. A trial date for Gross has been set for August 4th. Herbert Prejean, who's charged with murder in Feast's death, is slated for trial June 16th. He's currently serving a life sentence for the rape of a seven-year-old girl.
