Melancon Fined For Misreporting
The Federal Elections Commission reveals that 3rd district Congressman Charlie Melancon was fined $42-thousand for misreporting campaign finances in 2004. Melancon's campaign spokesman Bradley Baychock says a clerical error is to blame. The FEC report shows Melancon's campaign originally reported about $50-thousand in disbursements before amending the report to show over $650-thousand in additional disbursements. Baychock says there's nothing to hide in the matter. He says the error was discovered and reported in January 2005. He says Melancon's campaign paid the $42-thousand fine levied by the FEC in September of 2007. Baychock says there's nothing sinister afoot here. |
