A Senate bill that would allow public school teachers to discuss alternative scientific theories in class, without fear of reprisal, passed the state Senate. In committee, bill sponsor Ben Nevers of Bogalusa amended language out of the bill that made it appear to be a back door for teaching creationism in schools. Nevers added back to his bill example mentions of "evolution, the origins of life, global warming and human cloning". Three of those four are considered by some to be hot button religious issues. The bill heads to the house.
