Jindal Has Drawn Up His First Proposed Budget
Governor Bobby Jindal has drawn up his first proposed state budget since taking office in January. It'll be presented to state lawmakers tomorrow. As part of the spending plan he wants to allocate 70-million-dollars to raise the pay of public school teachers. Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis says that would keep teacher pay in Louisiana at the Southern regional average. Education funding is likely to be a hot issue when the Legislature is called back into special session next month on how to spend a one-billion-dollar state surplus.
