New Poll Shows Support For RedLight And RedFlex
A poll commissioned by the company that runs the SafeSpeed and Safelight Lafayette programs shows most of those questioned would vote to keep them in effect. The survey, paid for by RedFlex and conducted by Southern Media and Opinion Research, shows 66 percent of the 403 registered parish voters polled favor the SafeLight program, while 61 percent favor the SafeSpeed program. Both programs -- particularly SafeSpeed -- have drawn criticism from various groups. The programs use cameras to catch motorists in the act of speeding or running red lights, then mail citations to the vehicle owners, ordering them to pay fines for the violations.
