A proposal to rezone property on Moss Street for a Mello Joy coffee roasting plant will be considered this evening by the Lafayette City-Parish Council. The Lafayette Zoning Commission recently voted, 3-to-2, not to recommend the rezoning, saying the aroma of roasting coffee is not compatible with the area. The land in question is on Moss south of I-10, just north of Schilling Distributors and adjacent to a residential neighborhood. Under the proposal, Mello Joy would also locate its new headquarters and distribution facility at the site.
