Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft and members of the City-Parish Council tell downtown club and restaurant owners that they will have to help foot the bill for police patrols in the downtown area. Lafayette PD is asking the council for an additional 350-thousand-dollars to fund the patrols through June 13th. Beyond that date, city-parish officials say the club owners will need to contribute to help pay for the overtime required to keep the officers on the beat and provide security for the businesses. Craft says the police department has already paid out about 60-percent of its overtime allotment for the entire year.
