 Man Gets 24 Year Sentence

A man who pled guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of a 17-year-old Saint Martinville resident in a two-vehicle crash has been sentenced to 24-years behind bars. State District Judge Marilyn Castle handed down the sentence for Raymundo Franco, of El Paso, Texas, who caused the accident that killed Brittany Claire Dugas and seriously injured two other 17-year-olds, Kyle Viator and Michelle LeBlanc. Police have said the teens were leaving a convenience store at the corner of West Congress Street and Bertrand Drive in February 2005 when their vehicle was struck by the Chevrolet Avalanche Franco was driving. Authorities say Franco was speeding, and had a blood alcohol level of point-two-six, more than three times the legal limit. Castle also sentenced Franco to serve five-years each for two counts of vehicular injuring, which will run concurrently with the 24-year sentence.
