House Says Watching Dogfight Should Be a Felony
The full House gives unanimous approval to a bill that makes attending an illegal dogfight a felony offense. Bill sponsor J.P. Morrell, of New Orleans, says when fights are raided, only those currently fighting are charged with a felony under current law. He says quite often the spectators at the pit fights are either waiting to fight their own dogs, or have already done so. The bill aims to deter people from even going to see a dogfight, for fear of up to 10 years in jail and fines up to $25-thousand. That bill goes over to the Senate next. |
