The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education votes to move high-stakes LEAP testing from March to April. Dr. Scott Norton directs standards and assessments for the Department of Education. He says the change goes into effect for the 2008-2009 school year. He says the half month before LEAP tests are given, will give students much more time to prepare to take the pass-or-fail exams. Norton says BESE acted to move LEAP tests to a later date, after getting numerous complaints from parents and teachers. Hesays pushing the dates for LEAP testing back will delay, by about 9 days, students getting their test scores.
