(Lafayette, LA) -- Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft says even though there's been a recent spike in robberies, overall crime numbers have decreased. New statistics released by the Lafayette Police Department, covering January through October of this year, show decreases in murders, robberies, assaults, thefts, and auto thefts, compared to the same period in 2007. The number of rapes and burglaries has risen from last year. Craft says more arrests are likely in a string of ten robberies occurring in the past week--some of which are thought to be connected. He says patrols have been increased in the areas where the robberies took place.
