Lafayette PD Has to Rehire An Officer
A state appeals court has ordered the Lafayette Police Department to rehire an officer who was fired after testing positive for steroids. The court ruled that supervisors had no valid reason to test John Keith Richard, who says the positive test was a result of a tainted dietary supplement. Richard was one of two officers fired for testing positive for steroids in 2005 during an investigation into connections a drug suspect had with the police department. Richard argued the department did not have "reasonable suspicion" to test him. He lost one appeal before the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board and another to state District Judge John Trahan. Richard's attorney, WIlliam Goode, says his client is currently working in New Orleans, where he owns a security business. Goode says it's uncertain whether Richard will rejoin the Lafayette Police Department. |
