Hurricane Protection To Be Discussed
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives will be at the New Iberia City Council meeting this evening to discuss the Corps' plans for hurricane protection and coastal restoration projects targeting the city. Officials are also likely to address a proposal to replace metal plates at three key drainage canals in the area to help stave off storm surge from hurricanes. Councilman David Broussard says the canals have experienced storm surge in the past, putting the southern part of New Iberia under threat. The council meeting is scheduled for 5:30.
