The Lafayette Fire Department says a blaze that destroyed a home in the 100 block of Kennedy Drive last Thursday evening has been ruled accidental. Officials say it began in a storage room outside the home, where a clothes dryer was running. Homeowner Alana Bernard says she and her family were about to sit down to dinner when they heard a loud explosion and saw flames coming from the carport area. Fire Department officials say propane bottles placed near the dryer exploded. All five occupants got out safely, and no one was injured. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.
