(Lafayette, LA)  --  Appeals by four property owners who contested the reassessed value of their properties were denied last night by the Lafayette City-Parish Council.  The appeals were filed following issuance in July and August of property reassessments throughout the parish.  The assessments are conducted every four years, and determine how much property taxes owners must pay.  Two property owners maintained their tracts are located in a flood plain, and their worth on the open market has diminished as a result.  Lafayette Parish Assessor Conrad Comeaux says 1996 flood maps were used for this year's assessments -- not the most recent preliminary maps, which are being challenged by local officials.  Comeaux says anyone not happy with the council's decision can appeal to the state Tax Commission.
