Opelousas Fatal Fire Still Being Investigated

(Opelousas, LA)  --  A house fire in Opelousas that claimed the lives of two children remains under investigation. Authorities say four-year-old Sy Rideau [[REE-doh]] and three-year-old Kalub Smith died of smoke inhalation. Opelousas Fire Chief Lee Cahanin says the children were alone in the house when the fire broke out. Investigators say the blaze appears to have started in the living area adjacent to the kitchen, but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow says the department and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the blaze.
