(Washington, DC)  --  Some minorities are at a particularly high risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.  That's according to the Alzheimer's Association's new report titled "2010 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures."  The study found that Hispanics are around one and a half times more likely to have Alzheimer's or another form of dementia than whites.  African Americans are almost twice as likely as whites to have Alzheimer's and other dementias.  Researchers believe the figures may have something to do with the high prevalence of Alzheimer's risk factors like high blood pressure and diabetes in those groups.  However, they point out that socioeconomic factors may be exacerbating the problem by forcing minorities to delay treatment.  Whites still make up the majority of the five-million Americans officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  The report appears in this month's issue of "Alzheimer's and Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association."
