 Technology Not Bringing People Closer

(Rochester, NY)  --  Just because people have more ways to connect, it doesn't mean people feel more connected.  A new Kodak study shows that people feel more lonely, even though technology is providing more ways to reach out to others.  Two-thirds of respondents note they believe there is more loneliness in society in general today than there has been previously, and 60-percent admit they have fewer meaningful relationships now than they did five years ago.  While 80-percent acknowledge that with e-mail, IM, text messaging, and social networks it's easier to stay in contact with others, it hasn't resulted in forging meaningful bonds.  Respondents on Facebook average 136 friends, but only six committed confidants.  Meanwhile, just 29-percent say conversations via new technology leave them feeling closer to the person with whom they are communicating.
