New Orleans Ranks First In Income Growth

(Colorado Springs, CO)  --  New Orleans is ranked number one in income growth from 1983 to 2008.  The city ranked first in a bizjournals study of income growth in the country's 100 largest cities over the last 25 years.  Rankings were based on comparisons of growth among the 100 cities over 25 different time spans all ending in 2008 and ranging from a 25-year span to a one-year span, so results could be weighted toward recent growth.   The study noted rapid income growth in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Coming in last was Provo, Utah.

America puts Baton Rouge in the top 5 metro areas in the nation for
growing construction employment.  At the bottom of the list? Reno,
Nevada; Tucson, Arizona; Duluth, Minnesota.

LSU Baseball Team To Tour Nation's Capital

(Baton Rouge, LA)  --  The 2009 NCAA Champion LSU baseball team is in Washington, DC today to take a tour of the city and its historic landmarks.  Head coach Paul Mainieri says full details of the tour had not been revealed before the team was to fly to the nation's capital, but White House officials say a scheduling conflict will prevent the team from meeting with President Obama.  This will be the first time an LSU baseball team has been invited to Washington since the 1991 College World Series champs received an invitation.  This will also be the fifth LSU sports team to visit Washington this decade.

Defendant Found Guilty In Murder Trial

 (Lake Charles, LA)  --  A man charged in the slaying of a Sulphur resident in February 2002 has been found guilty of second-degree murder.  A Calcasieu Parish jury voted 11-1 Tuesday to convict 28-year-old Jonathan Boyer in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Bradlee Marsh.  The jury also convicted Boyer of the related crime of armed robbery with a firearm.  Marsh was killed inside his truck after giving a ride to Boyer and his brother.  The victim was shot three times near his right ear.  Formal sentencing for Boyer is set for October 14th, where he will receive a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Man Gets Life In Prison For Killing Man With Hammer

(Covington, LA)  --  A Folsom-area man convicted of killing another man with a hammer has been sentenced to life behind bars.  Forty-two-year-old Edward McCray was found guilty in August of killing 35-year-old Mallery McGee.  McCray struck McGee four times in the head with a metal hammer on August 7th, 2005.  Witnesses testified that McCray took the victim's wallet and stash of crack cocaine, then removed his clothes.  Second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
