Southern University Administrator Resigns

A former state lawmaker who's under federal indictment has given up her administrative position at Southern University at New Orleans. According to a news release from Chancellor Victor Ukpolo, Renee Gill Pratt has voluntarily taken leave of absence without pay from her position as director of admissions, recruitment and retention. Pratt was indicted last week on racketeering charges.

Shreveport Police Officer Implicated as a "Slasher"

Well, they probably won't be making a slasher flick out of it, but a
Shreveport police officer is on administrative leave after being
charged with.... slashing someone's tire. 34-year-old Officer Ronnie
Debello has been on the SPD three years. A witness reportedly called
police to tell them they'd seen Debello take a knife to the car's
tire.

Wetland Concerts and Parades This Weekend

Hurricane season starts Monday, and to call attention to the
hazards, the America's Wetland Foundation is sponsoring several
events this weekend. Foundation director Val Marmillion says even
though the theme is "Sound the Alarm"--it's not all doom and gloom.
Parades and free concerts showcase a new dual approach.
America's Wetland is throwing a free concert tomorrow afternoon in
New Orleans, another Sunday in downtown Houma.

Barge Owner Sued

Relatives of three of the five boaters killed after crashing into a
barge in Terrebonne Parish last week are suing the barge owner. They
claim the barge was not properly lit or moored.

Former Youth Minister Sentenced for Molestation

A former youth mentor at a northeast Louisiana church has been
sentenced to 24 years in prison. 26-year-old Jeremy Little of
Sterlington was found guilty of giving two boys liquor, then drugs,
then molesting them.
