West Nile In Livingston Parish

Louisiana has its first human case of West Nile virus for 2008. Department of Health and Hospitals spokeswoman Jolie Adams says it's a Livingston Parish man, and the virus was discovered when he went to donate blood. This man is NOT sick from the virus, and the early discovery is good. She says it's a sign the state's year-round watch on West Nile is working. The early spring discovery of West Nile is a reminder to take precautions against mosquito bites.

6th Candidates Talk Issues

Candidates seeking to claim the congressional seat vacated by Richard Baker face each other in Saturday's general election. Republican Woody Jenkins says he would tackle the continued decline in Louisiana's population. Democrat Don Cazayoux sees access to affordable health care coverage as one of the major issues on the table. He advocates make the same health care plan that covers members of Congress available to the country's citizens. Independent Ashley Casey says there are many issues on the federal agenda that impact Louisiana--not the least of which is continued support for hurricane recovery.

Tragic Ending After Search For Boy

The search for a missing five-year-old boy in northeast Louisiana had a tragic ending.  Stephen Sasnett of Delhi turned up missing Thursday afternoon. Police began searching the woods and pond behind his home where he was found.  Foul play is not suspected.

Accussed Stalker Behind Bars

An alleged stalker is behind bars in Caddo Parish, after the object of his obsession found him hiding in her closet, wielding a knife. Deputies say 29-year-old Tobias E. Ward is charged with burglary and stalking. Ward was arrested two weeks ago for breaking into the same woman's home. The woman says Ward became obsessed with her after they dated once, and he now calls her at home and at work frequently.

Merger Talks End
United and Continental airlines have ended their merger talks amid nervousness over the increasing costs of jet fuel.  A source close to the talks says Continental ended the discussions due to United's weak financial condition and the rising cost of fuel.  The source said the rising price of jet fuel, quote, "increases the risk of doing an airline merger."  Meanwhile, Continental is said to be in talks with British Airways and American Airlines to form an alliance that would be immune from anti-trust laws.
