Attempt Fails to Oust Chairman of State Democratic Party
Over the weekend there was a failed attempt to oust Chris Whittington as chairman of the state Democratic Party. Many party members have expressed frustration with the Democrats' 2008 election losses in Louisiana. Whittington says he understands that. Whittington says a procedural matter kept the resolution from coming up for a floor vote.

An inmate at the Rapides Parish jail faces new charges after being
accused of setting her cell mattress on fire over the weekend.

Teams of student chefs from around southeast Louisiana are part of a
big cooking competition. Loyola University's Asian Student
Organization holds its 2009 Iron Chef competition Thursday.
Celebrity chef John Besh will return as a guest judge.

Parents of Dead Infant Girl Arrested
Both parents of a Monroe area infant girl that died Saturday are now
under arrest. Blunt force to the stomach is believed to be the cause
of death. The baby's father is suspected, and now her mother is
arrested on suspicion she knew of the abuse and did nothing.

GM's Shreveport Plant
Workers at GM's Shreveport assembly plant know their future
employment is uncertain; with the Hummer brand for sale and the
company facing bankruptcy. Shreveport councilman and former GM
employee Ron Webb says the plant's 800 workers are hoping to hear
some good news.
President Obama now favors letting GM go bankrupt, if that is its
fate. Webb says he believes the company will emerge from a
bankruptcy leaner and a bit smaller. He says he's optimistic that
the fairly new, and state-of-the-industry plant WILL be used to
build something new for GM.
