Officials urge parents to keep children safe from traffic hazards this Halloween
State officials urge parents to be extra careful while trick-or-treating tonight. State Highway Safety Commission director Col. John LeBlanc reminds us to take simple steps to help keep children safe from traffic hazards. National data from AAA says traffic-related fatalities on Halloween go up by 30-percent when the holiday falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. LeBlanc says he's urging adults going to Halloween parties to remain sober and very alert behind the wheel.

18-year-old and two juveniles arrested and charged with multiple burglaries
An 18 year old and two juvenile suspects have been arrested and charged with multiple residential burglaries. According to detectives, the suspects went to homes located in Plaza Village, Robert Lee Circle and White Subdivision and burglarized 4 homes. An attempt was made on a 5th home and 5 vehicles were stolen. The suspects would allegedly break into the home to take the car keys and steal the vehicle. Lafayette Police Officers arrested the suspects while they were riding in a stolen vehicle.

Lower natural gas prices responsible for decline in Haynesville Shale leasing activity
Lower prices for natural gas are, in part, responsible for a slowing of Haynesville Shale leasing activity. Don Briggs, with the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association, says there's another element in the slowdown.
Haynesville Shale is a natural gas-rich deposit located deep underneath parts of nortwest Louisiana.

Louisiana School for the Deaf to re-open next Wednesday
The Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge will re-open next Wednesday, according to state education department officials. The school was closed October 8th, following a report of a 16-year-old student sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl aboard a school bus. Officials say the school will re-open in full operation, receiving both day and residential students.

First Louisiana National Bank robbed this morning, arrests made
A robbery at the First Louisiana National Bank on Moss Street took place this morning. A woman with a covered face and a handgun demanded money from the tellers, then left the bank in a 4-door silver vehicle with trash bags covering the back windows. The man and woman, which were later found occupying the vehicle, were arrested.

One Dead In Early Morning Shooting

Baton Rouge police report that officers responded to a shooting about 3:30 Thursday morning in the 1500 block of North Marque Ann Drive where they found a black male lying in a parking lot who had been shot.
