Attorney's Trial Delayed

(Lafayette, LA)  --  The trial of a Lafayette attorney accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2007 has been delayed until December.  Scott Hawkins, with the law firm of Hawkins and Villemarette [[VILL-uh-muh-RETT]], is now scheduled to stand trial on December 1st.  Hawkins is accused of simple rape in an attack on a former receptionist in March 2007.  The state 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal has also ruled to allow DNA evidence to be introduced at the trial.

Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide

(Lafayette, LA)  --  Police have arrested a Duson man following his July 23rd indictment on a vehicular homicide charge.  Twenty-year-old Sean Holloway is accused of causing the accident in which his passenger, 22-year-old Shawn Lancon [[LAWN-sawn]], also of Duson, was killed.  The crash took place in August 2007 on Fieldspan Road in Duson, at the intersection with Althea Drive.  Police have said Holloway failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle as he made a left turn.  Authorities say lab results show Holloway was driving while impaired.

Boustany, Four Other La. Congressman Vote Against Bailout Bill

(Washington, DC)  --  Lafayette Congressman Charles Boustany was one of five members of Louisiana's House delegation to vote against the 700-billion-dollar financial bailout bill.  The measure was defeated by a vote of 228-205.  Boustany, who's facing a challenge for his congressional seat from state Senator Don Cravins, Jr., says the bill is "not the prudent way to protect responsible mortgages and pension plans" and that taxpayers shouldn't be "put on the hook" for such a massive bailout.  Only Democrat Charlie Melancon [[muh-LAW-saw]] and Republican Jim McCrery from the Louisiana delegation voted in favor of the bill.

Woman Shot To Death

(Opelousas, LA)  --  Opelousas police have arrested a man accused of fatally shooting his wife during a domestic dispute at their home Monday evening.  Authorities say 68-year-old John Sanders faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 63-year-old Mary Beverly Sanders.  Police Chief Perry Gallow says officers responded to the shooting after John Sanders called 9-1-1 and indicated he had just shot his wife.  Mary Sanders was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Police Look For Possible Suspect In Kidnapping


(Breaux Bridge, LA)  --  Police are looking for a man they believe kidnapped a two-week-old child from a Breaux Bridge fast food restaurant.  Authorities say 23-year-old Micaha Leon Lewis is believed to have taken the child from his ex-girlfriend at a Wendy's Saturday night.  Lewis is a resident of Vidor, Texas, and is described a as white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen driving a blue, late-model Chevrolet Monte Carlo with dark-tinted windows and Texas plates.

One Dead In Early Morning Shooting

Baton Rouge police report that officers responded to a shooting about 3:30 Thursday morning in the 1500 block of North Marque Ann Drive where they found a black male lying in a parking lot who had been shot.
