Lawmaker Walkin' For a Cause
A Shreveport lawmaker is preparing to make another 226-mile walk from his district to the steps of the state capitol. Representative Patrick Williams will make the trek to raise awareness of problems associated with autism. He says some progress has been made in the fight against autism, but he's set to put on his walking shoes again.

Williams says his walk is to also raise awareness of widespread child obesity in Louisiana. His walk is set to end April 22nd at the State Capitol steps.

President Obama-U.S. Economy Poll Results
A poll indicates most people feel President Obama should not shoulder the blame for the current dismal state of the U.S. economy. The "Washington Post"-ABC News poll shows 80 percent of the respondents point the finger of blame at banks, financial institutions and corporations. In addition, 70 percent say consumers are responsible for running up large amounts of debt and also blamed the former Bush administration for not having stricter regulations in place. Just over a quarter of those surveyed believe the Obama administration is not doing enough to correct the course of the economy. Some 64 percent expressed confidence that Obama's policies will have a positive impact on the economy. However, that's a decline from 72 percent just before he took office in January. The poll of a thousand adults was taken Thursday through Sunday.

Fraud On the Internet
Cases of fraud on the Internet have skyrocketed as the recession tightens its grip on the nation. A new report from the Internet Fraud Complaint Center shows losses from Internet fraud reached a record high of more than 264-million dollars last year. It's a jump of about ten percent from the year before, and experts at the fraud center say 2009 is looking like an even bigger year. Most of the reported complaints dealt with people not receiving the products they paid for. That was followed by auction fraud, credit card fraud and investment scams. Most of the scams were perpetrated through e-mails.

Are You Afraid of the Dentist?
If you're afraid of the dentist, you aren't alone. A new American Association of Endodontists poll shows that 80-percent of American adults fear dental appointments, and more than 50-percent admit that this fear keeps them from having dental work done. More people are afraid of having to undergo a painful procedure rather than feeling fear based on a prior bad experience at the dentist. When it comes to pain, a root canal is the most feared procedure, and among the most frightening experiences. Nearly 55-percent say they're afraid of having a root canal, compared to 57-percent who note they're afraid of flying in an airplane during a storm and 42-percent who are intimidated by job interviews and fearful of speaking in public. The AAE conducted its survey in conjunction with the third annual Root Canal Awareness Week, which runs through April 4th.

Gautreaux on TOPS
State Senator Butch Gautreaux of Morgan City wants to change the state's TOPS scholarship award program from open-ended grants to flat grants. While no figures have been arrived at yet, Gautreaux says he'd like to see the grants total 18-hundred dollars. He says the economy has made it necessary to take this action.
Gautreaux says, while he wants to ease the burden on the state relative to TOPS, he wants to see the program continue.
Opposition is expected to be strong from the Taylor Foundation, whose founder, the late oil man Pat Taylor, pushed the Legislature for passage of the forerunner to the TOPS program. Gautreaux says that's a given.
