Camp Brave Hearts Thursday, July 31, 2008
Camp Brave Hearts, now in its sixth year, is Hospice of Acadiana’s annual summer camp for any child, age 7-11, in the Acadiana community who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Campers will participate in activities such as swimming, rock ritual, art, letter writing, balloon ritual, making a memory box, and a Native American ritual. The cost for the camp is $15 and will be held at the Robicheaux Center in Lafayette on July31-August1 from 9am - 3pm. Those interested can call 237-1332 ext. 2234, or stop by the Hospice of Acadiana building located at 2600 Johnston St. Hospice of Acadiana, is the area's only non-profit hospice provider committed to serving the entire community as well as those in need. The American Cancer Society’s Reflections of Hope Gala will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at the Lafayette Natural History Museum. Gala guests will enjoy an evening of art & wine for all the right reasons: the fight against cancer. During the event, the American Cancer Society will present its Spirit of Hope Award to members of our community who have made significant contributions in the fight against cancer. The individuals selected for this year’s award will represent the “spirit” of the American Cancer Society and the dedication of those involved in the fight against cancer. These men and women are among the top in their fields, exemplifying excellence in education, experience, community service, and commitment to the fight against cancer. Healing House will be hosting its fourth annual Martini’s and Masquerade on August 23rd at the City Club in River Ranch. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include a silent auction, music, great food, and of course, martinis! The Healing House offers support groups and activities for children who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. For them, it is a safe place to grieve and it is free of charge for their families. Healing House will be hosting its first ever Family Adventure Day on October 18, 2008. Our goal for this special event is to encourage families to spend the day together and support local businesses.
